What could make the difference?
Compare the estimated recipient amounts above to see how much the displayed results differ.
The difference comes from the combination of the displayed exchange rate and transfer fee. A provider may charge a low or no visible fee while including part of the cost in a less favourable exchange rate. That is why a lower fee does not always mean that more money reaches your recipient.
Before sending, confirm the final amount, receiving method and delivery time directly with the provider.

Send money from the UAE to Sri Lanka
Most UAE to Sri Lanka transfers are converted into Sri Lankan rupees. However, eligible recipients may also be able to retain workers’ remittances in a foreign currency account.
The available payout currency and receiving method depend on the provider, the recipient’s account and the local institution completing the transfer.
RemitNavigator compares available provider rates, fees and estimated recipient amounts for the same AED send amount.
Will the transfer be converted to Sri Lankan rupees?
Most consumer transfers from the UAE to Sri Lanka are quoted with the recipient receiving LKR. The provider converts the transfer using its displayed AED to LKR exchange rate.
Workers’ remittances do not always have to be converted into LKR. A recipient with an eligible foreign currency account may be able to retain the funds in a supported foreign currency.
This requires:
- An eligible foreign currency account
- A receiving bank that accepts the transfer
- A provider that supports payout in the account’s currency
- Confirmation of any sending, receiving or conversion fees
The currency retained may not be AED. It depends on the currencies supported by the provider and receiving account.
RemitNavigator’s UAE to Sri Lanka comparison shows estimated recipient amounts in LKR. Transfers that remain in foreign currency are a separate service and are not directly comparable with the results shown above.

Ways to receive money in Sri Lanka
International providers normally use a Sri Lankan bank, mobile money operator or payout network to complete the transfer. Available receiving methods vary by provider.
Bank account
A bank deposit sends the money directly to the recipient’s Sri Lankan bank account.
The sender may need:
- The recipient’s full name as registered with the bank
- Bank name
- Account number
- Branch name or bank code
- Recipient address or mobile number
- Purpose of the transfer, if requested
If the recipient wants to retain the money in foreign currency, confirm that the account and provider support the same payout currency. Otherwise, the transfer may be converted into LKR.
Mobile money
eZ Cash and mCash are established mobile money services in Sri Lanka. Eligible international remittances can be credited to supported accounts through participating transfer partners.
A mobile money transfer can be useful when the recipient regularly manages money through their phone or does not want the transfer deposited into a conventional bank account.
The sender will normally need the mobile number registered to the recipient’s active account. Support from the UAE depends on the selected provider and its local payout arrangement.
If the recipient intends to withdraw the balance as cash, check the available cash-out locations, applicable limits and withdrawal charges.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup can suit recipients who need physical cash or cannot receive the transfer through a suitable bank or mobile money account.
The recipient will normally need valid government-issued identification and the transfer reference number. Availability depends on the provider’s payout network, the selected location and its opening hours.
What is LankaRemit?
LankaRemit is Sri Lanka’s national remittance application. It was introduced to make formal remittance channels easier for Sri Lankans working abroad to find and use.
The app can help users find participating remittance services, view available exchange-house information, access provider platforms and track supported transfers.
LankaRemit is not a universal money transfer provider. The actual transfer may be completed through a separate bank, money transfer service or financial institution, and not every international provider is connected to the app.
What should you check before sending?
Before completing a transfer to Sri Lanka, confirm:
- The final amount the recipient will receive
- Whether the payout currency is LKR or another supported currency
- The available receiving method
- The recipient details required
- Any account, wallet or collection limits
- Any receiving, conversion or cash-out charges
- The expected delivery time
You can also check the indicative AED to LKR exchange rate for currency context before comparing provider offers.
Rates, fees, receiving methods and payout arrangements can change. The provider’s final quote and transfer information apply to the transaction.
